Maybe the most technical mixed case and at least the most subtle. The result is both a discovery of the domaine and a step into the technicality of the wines. In 2020 Rasmus only made 2 barrels of white wine from Grenache, only about 600 bottles were produced. This is 100% Grenache Gris, after a direct pressing the juice was sub-divided into 2 barrels in equal proportions. The first wine (Barrique 1) began and finished it's fermentation in barrel. The second (Barrique 2) was run-off directly into steel and racked into barrels once the fermentation had well begun. All else is same for both wines; same parcel, same fruit, press, élevage and bottling date. Does such a small difference offer discernible differences in the finished wine? One can assume that availability of oxidation would have differed, yeasts populations would have varied from tank to barrel. The point here is to showcase the fact that wine is an incredibly complex thing, personal taste is important and wines that are seemingly the same can be different.
